We'll kick off the New Year on January 4th with a contradance featuring music by Eleemosynary and Casey Mullaney calling.

Eleemosynary members are all local musicians, led by Peter Blue on nyckelharpa and accordion. Other members are Carol Mandigo playing guitar and Danny Birnbaum on bass.
Each of the musicians plays with other area bands but as Eleemosynary, they play traditional and new contra dance music, with emphasis one tunes composed by Peter Blue.
And in keeping with the nane of the band, a portion of their proceeds from each performance is donated to a local charity

Casey began her calling career while attending Hartwick College and has expanded her experience to other dances in the upstate NY area. Since leaving the area, she has continued her interest in contradancing and with her friendly calling manner and clear instructions, we're happy to welcome her back to our dance!

Have a happy New Year...hope to see you Friday!
Finally! We're ready to dance!

Friday April 6th will be our next contradance.
Music will be by Men in Black and Garry Aney will be the caller.

Men in Black is made up of Robert Calandresa on accordion, John Potocnik on fiddle and Tom Ives playing bass. The band was organized by Robert a few years ago and are regulars at our contradances. Their strong and energetic playing reflects their wide variety of musical backgrounds and experience, whether they're playing Celtic or Old-time styles or adding in country harmonies.

Garry Aney is a long-time caller who adds a historical perspective to his calling. His dance repertoire includes dances from all points in American history, ranging from Revolutionary times to modern-day contradances.

So, if the weatherman agrees, we'll have a great dance.
Hope to see you there on the 6th.BWDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12705860616286654281noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8792572762215697828.post-5432450542041358542018-03-02T10:06:00.003-05:002018-03-02T10:06:49.124-05:00March 2nd Contradance CANCELLED
As you probably expected, we are cancelling our contradance tonight,
due to the severe weather for the rest of the day and evening

It is always disappointing when we need to cancel a dance,
but the safety of our dancers and performers is really important.

Hope to see you at our next dance on April 6th.BWDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12705860616286654281noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8792572762215697828.post-37911937955620303092018-02-19T14:03:00.004-05:002018-02-19T14:12:49.875-05:00March 2nd Contradance
Dancing begins at 7:30 PM and continues until 10:30 PM, with a short break for refreshments.
So before your holiday season gets too busy, try to join us for some stress-free fun!

We had a great time at our Fall Harvest Dance!

Wonderful food and loads of it!
And the decorations were great, including a life-size scarecrow to greet everyone as they came in.

Peter Blue introduced his new contradance and 2 tunes, Hart's Jig and Hart's Reel,
which he wrote for Joe and Nina Hart, long-time supporters of our dance.

Summer is rapidly coming to a close and we will be contradancing again SOON!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Our September dance will have Rosetree playing and Garry Aney calling.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: black; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Rosetree
is a duo from the Binghamton area, made up of Amy Shapiro on fiddle

<span style="color: black; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">and nyckleharpa and Allen Lutins on guitar.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The duo plays
contradances throughout New York and Pennsylvania,

<span style="color: black; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">where they feature
European folk music (especially Celtic, Eastern European and
Scandinavian)
<span style="color: black; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">as well as 'Old Time', Bluegrass and other 'Americana'
classics.

Garry Aney combines his background in historical interpretation with modern influences, offering an interesting balance of contemporary and traditional contradances. He calls dances from many periods of American history and should provide a great combination with Rosetree's Americana classics and other worldwide folk music
